"Tradition" and "Competition"?

Stage Kumite

Many believe that the term "Tradition" cannot rhyme with "Competition", and implies only rigid, quasi-spiritual forms of practice.

...Ippon ?

This is an erroneous prejudice, forgivable of course in the case of neophytes, but one that must be overcome in order to realize how much, on the contrary, codified forms of combat (Kumite) are a springboard for acquiring performance in free combat. In any "traditional" Dojo, you will assiduously practice "Ippon Kumite", "Sanbon Kumite", "Jiyu Ippon Kumite", "Jiyu Kumite", etc., right up to "Shiaï" or refereed free assaults.

SUISSE SHOTOKAN KARATE encourages and accompanies karatekas who wish to do so on the road to competition, a complement recommended above all to young karatekas in connection with a "Martial Art".
